After disappointing millions of his fans with an average performance and a rotten story in Happy New Year and Dilwale, King Khan, had to make full use of his next film to restore his aura and image in Bollywood. FAN is not only SRK’s big chance to reincarnate his name in Bollywood but also marks his return with the Yash Raj banner after the success of Jab Tak Hai Jaan
Fan is a story about a boy from Delhi, Gaurav, who bears a striking resemblance to his favorite actor, idol and role model, Aryan Khanna. From imitating him on colony festivals to singing his hymns on the streets of the Capital, Gaurav has done everything what it takes to be called a Jabra Fan of Aryan. Things go loving and peaceful till Gaurav decides to meet his idol, Aryan on his birthday to show him his love for the actor and this is where things take a turn in the life of both Gaurav and Aryan.
Set in most parts of Delhi, Mumbai and London, FAN, belongs to the thriller genre and does full justice to the genre. Playing both, the roles of the star Aryan and his fan, Gaurav, Shah Rukh Khan, plays both the roles with extreme perfection and elegance. For a moment, Gaurav reminds us of the fascinating negative performance given by Shah Rukh in Darr, where he won our hearts by his stammering dialogues and psychotic performance.
A movie, especially a thriller can only occupy your interest if it has the following ingredients coupled; a perfect villain and nimble story. FAN has it both. The best part of Fan is that it has just one song, the Jabra Fan Anthem, and the rest of the movie is purely an interesting script with some classy acting from Shah Rukh. Dialogues are simple, yet some of them just come out of the way and appeal to the public in front, like “Jane de,Tu nai samjhega” and “ Ab tak fan star ke peeche bhagta tha ab star fan ke peeche bhagega” and the list goes on.
With movies like Band Baja Baraat and Dum Laga Ke Haisha, director Maneesh Sharma does no mistake in directing a SRK centred, interesting and captivating thriller. However, FAN has some weak points, but the cast and crew make sure they are well covered up.
FAN is a win-win movie for all the viewers, for those who are SRK fans, they are set to go crazy drooling over his performance and for the others, an intriguing thriller which makes you say Paisa Vasool. FAN is a proof to all those who say SRK can just do the open arms chocolate boy/romantic Raj act, proving“Form Is Temporary & Class Is Permanent”
My Rating: 4.5/5
