Akira Tries Taking off in Intervals but Suffers Multiple Crash Landings

Starring: Sonakshi Sinha (Akira Sharma), Konkona Sen Sharma (SP Rabiya), Anurag Kashyap (ACP Rane), Amit Sadh (Siddharth)

Director: AR Murugadoss

Music: Vishal-Shekhar

Train journeys and films are best enjoyed if they are short, crisp and full of entertainment with some remarkable faces that make the film/journey memorable. AR Murgadoss’ latest action-drama venture features a promising star cast comprising of Sonakshi Sinha, Anurag Kashyap and Konkana Sen Sharma; faces that promise you a Rajdhani of entertainment but end up with a morning 9 AM local one.

Akira-trailer

With an adorable back story of our men bashing fighter and lead lady, Akira(Sonakshi Sinha), director Murgadoss, keeps bringing in his main characters for almost half an hour to churn up the interest towards a grand finale. To be honest Akira was not expected to be a perfect film, but it turns out to be much more horrid compared to our already negligible expectations. The movie sends out silent messages to the society urging a call to action for women safety and mute kids but all the social work and Sonakshi action are not enough to save you from colossal boredom and disappointment.

Music is no aces and hardly thankfully makes no impression. Despite its multiple follies, Anurag Kashyap and Sonakshi manage to put some vigor in this lifeless 140 minute journey. Konkana Sen Sharma makes her return to the 70mm screen after long time and her magical touch seems to have faded away.

Despite a weak plot, Akira is a directorial mishap from AR Murgadoss. Poorly directed action scenes and a feeble story indicates the poor form of the grand director from the South. The film does give some interesting twists and turns, but similar to Teen, it disappoints.

Akira-Sonakshi-Sinha

As we begin our journey for the month of September, the very first station/stop, Akira has been an unpleasant opening to the innings. The Cinema Station highly recommends not spending your time, sleep or money on this station and look forward for Baar Baar Dekho, next week.

My Rating: Unreserved compartment(1.5/5)
